The Jabra Elite 65t are a pair of true wireless earphones that have received stellar reviews since their release in 2018.
Are Jabra 65t Waterproof
The Jabra Elite 65t earphones are waterproof to an extent. They have an IP55 rating, which means they’re dustproof and waterproof when exposed to low-pressure water jets from all angles. This will protect against sweat and light rain but not showers or heavy rain.
TechRadar even touted the Jabra Elite 65t as a chief competitor to Apple AirPods, which is high praise considering they’re around half the price.
The Danish brand has continued to release successful true wireless earphones. The Jabra Elite Active 75t is the successor to the 65t, though the 65t is still very popular.
The 65t and 75t come in two different models; the Standard and the Active models. The Active models aren’t too dissimilar to the standard models, but they feature superior IP ratings for waterproofness.
This article will answer every question you have about whether the Jabra Elite range is waterproof.

Are Jabra Elite 65t waterproof?
According to Jabra’s FAQ, the Jabra Elite 65t features an IP rating of IP55.
The Jabra Elite 65t are waterproof to low-pressure water jets sprayed from nozzles at any angle. In other words, they should be fine to use in light rain, and sweaty workouts shouldn’t be a problem.
- Jabra doesn’t recommend that you wear these earphones in prolonged or heavy rain, and showering or swimming is out of the question.
However, it’s always wise to err on the side of caution when exposing your earphones to water, as Jabra’s warranty doesn’t cover water damage.
If waterproofness is a priority for you, consider upgrading to the Elite Active 65t or Elite Active 75t.

The IP scale explained
IP stands for Ingress Protection. The IP scale measures how well-protected an electronic device is when exposed to dust and water. Every IP rating features two ratings.
The first rating refers to how well-protected the device is when exposed to particles like dust, and the second rating refers to how well-protected the device is against water. If the rating contains an ‘X’, that simply denotes that the manufacturer hasn’t provided a rating.
In the case of the Jabra Elite 65t, the IP rating is IP55.
- The first rating of “5” shows that the 65t protects against dust. So exposure to dust shouldn’t damage the earphones under normal circumstances.
- The second rating of “5” shows that the Jabra Elite 65t protects against low-pressure water jets from all angles. This should cover everything from sweaty workouts to light rain. Prolonged exposure to water isn’t recommended.
Can you swim with the Jabra 65t?
The Jabra 65t earphones aren’t designed for swimming or immersion in water.
You should avoid any sort of immersion underwater. With an IP55 rating, these earphones only protect against low-pressure jets of water.

Can I shower with Jabra 65t?
It’s not recommended. Most showers wouldn’t count as a ‘low pressure’ water jet. So showering with your Jabra 65t is a risk worth avoiding.
Their IP55 rating only covers low-pressure water jets and sweat. Showers would likely expose the earphones to high-pressure water jets.
Is the Jabra 65t case waterproof?
The charging cases for the Elite range are not IP-rated, which means they’re not waterproof.
If you want to make sure your Jabra Elites are protected from water while charging, then it’s wise to invest in a waterproof carry case.
Are the Jabra Elite Active 65t waterproof?
The Jabra Elite Active 65t is a slightly upgraded version of the Jabra Elite 65t.
While the Jabra Elite 65t has an IP55 rating, the Jabra Elite Active 65t has an improved IP56 rating.
- IP55 protects against dust and weak low-pressure water jets from all angles.
- On the other hand, IP56 protects against dust and high-pressure water jets from all angles.
The Jabra Elite Active 65t should be fine to use in the rain.
Technically, they protect against showers, but it’s generally not advisable to shower with them on. IP56 doesn’t protect from immersion in water, so swimming is still out of the question.
If you need further waterproofness, the Jabra Elite Active Sport offers an IP67 rating, which means they’re entirely dustproof and can withstand short periods of immersion underwater (30 minutes at a depth of 1m or less). However, Jabra still doesn’t recommend that you swim wearing the earphones.

Interestingly, both the Jabra Elite 65t and 75t (both the standard and Active versions) are more waterproof than the newer Jabra Elite 85t, which only have an IP rating of IPx4.
IPx4 is shared by AirPods. So, if you’re looking for earphones for sport and need protection against sweat and light rain, Jabra is the way to go.
Are Jabra 75t more waterproof than 65t?
The Jabra Elite 75t features the same IP55 rating as its predecessors, the 65t.
They protect against dust and low-pressure water jets from all angles. This is sufficient to protect against a sweaty workout or light rain, but showering is still not recommended.
The Jabra Elite Active 75t features a superior IP rating of IP67. This means they’re entirely sealed against dust and can withstand temporary immersion in water.
The Jabra Elite Active 75t should withstand 30-minutes of immersion in 1m of water or less. Jabra provides a limited warranty for dust and perspiration damage, but this doesn’t cover water damage. It’s not recommended that you swim wearing the Jabra Elite Active 75t.
Summary: Are Jabra Elite 65t waterproof?
If you’re looking for the most waterproof earphones Jabra offers, check out the Elite Active 75t and Jabra Elite Active Sport (IP67 ratings).
Both of these earphones are protected against immersion in water for 30-minutes at a depth of 1m or less. However, this still doesn’t mean that you should shower, bathe, or swim wearing earphones. Jabra does supply an extended 3-year warranty for perspiration damage, but not for water damage.
Overall, the Jabra Elite and Elite Active range are still some of the very best earphones out there for sports and activities. Their IP ratings are above average, and perhaps most importantly, they beat AirPods in practically every department.
